With its prime location in Central Europe, Hungary has witnessed the rise and fall of great empires—from the Romans to the Ottomans. But Hungary hasn’t just been a passive participant in history. It’s renowned for its contributions to music and art, enjoys a folk culture that is unlike anywhere else in the world, and is home to one of the strongest culinary styles in all of Europe. This is the country that invented paprika after all.

But contained within its gentle scenery and booming cities is a country with a strong and thriving economy and a very high standard of living. Hungary offers social security, universal healthcare. tuition-free university, and is a member of the European Union, the Schengen Area, the United Nations, WTO, NATO, and more.

The Danube River flows through the centre of the country and is an important backdrop for cities as well as the rolling countryside. Hungary is also home to more than 15,00 thermal springs—meaning this is a country that takes its spa culture very seriously.

The capital is Budapest—one of the largest cities in the EU—and is also an economic hub for Central and Eastern Europe. Wander through its storied streets and you’ll find a visual representation of its rich history with everything from art nouveau style buildings to Roman ruins, medieval homes, and more.
